Vancouver has some of the best maternal care in North America
We're home to BC Woman's hospital which practices mother-centric maternity care and the cost of a midwife is paid for by your MSP, making it an optimal choice for woman seeking a more natural, less routine, style of birth.
Midwife – Registered midwives in BC offer primary health care to healthy pregnant women and their newborn babies from early pregnancy, through labour and birth, and up to six weeks postpartum. Just like physicians, midwives are regulated and registered through a professional college. All registered midwives in BC have hospital privileges; they also provide the option of home birth to low-risk mothers. Midwives work within a woman-centric model of care which tends to result in less interventions and a more natural birth experience. Midwives consult with obstetricians, pediatricians and other specialists when needed. You don’t need a referral to see a registered midwife.
